I'll start this post by commenting that my little eight year old Maltese, Cosmo, is somehow super photogenic. This morning he gave me quite a scare, forcing me to call the vet, my sister at work, my mom in Florida (she's on vacation), and canceling all the errands I had and then I was 15 minutes late to work. It turns out that he's fine, but I can't handle surprises.
Speaking of surprises, several months ago, I visited my grandmother on my birthday and she didn't know what day it was. Her absent-mindedness encouraged me to call my dad and have him take her to the emergency room. So began the circle that hopefully ends at this point: she was admitted as an inpatient for a week, then she was discharged home after declining a hip replacement to help her walk again (she's got the arthritic hip), then my father went to her house three times a day for two weeks until my uncle finally drove in from Denver. Then it took the three of them (the tato, Denver, and Lapeer) a month to find an assisted living for the bibo babo. After that they decided to hire a live-in nurse who was living in America on an expired visa, had no intention of staying in the states for long (she's from the Ukraine), had no RN's license, no job references, no driver's license or car, and didn't speak English. They hired her and then she pulled out just days before move-in time. She ended up in the assisted living where the three had originally arranged for her to live, and I guess it's been working out recently. She's been there for over a week and I don't think she likes it bunches, but I think she's starting to understand that she's never going to live at home by herself again.
The last three days have been absolute hell on me, if only because Zern was in the shop, getting his leather seats replaced (finally!). I was originally scheduled to go in a few weeks ago, but I came down with pharyngitis/strep throat, so I stayed home. Then came Thanksgiving and all of a sudden I'm scheduled to work 40 hours every week. I don't mind it because I love my job, but I knew I needed to get this repair done before driving down to Miami the day after Christmas. So I get to the dealership and they tell me that the rental car people are coming to pick me up and that my repairs (they were also going to check out a recall that warned that the back door latches could fall off, causing the door to swing open and unrestrained passengers to become injured by falling out of a moving vehicle) would take one to two days to complete. So I'm all like "whatever" and then this gargantuan Ford F-150 pulls up and I'm all like "no way." Turns out that this horrible vehicle was the only rental car left on the lot, so it was either drive this monstrosity or have no car. I reluctantly signed the rental contract and got into the truck. I ended up with it for two days. The rental lady looked at me today when I came in and goes "so how did you end up liking the F-150?" and as I recalled the 50-or-so times I'd complained about it in the previous 48 hours, I replied, with a straight face, "I hated every minute of it." I'm glad I've got the Zern back.
I was really excited to see AJ comment on my last post (the Madonna review), encouraging me to write more reviews. I would love to review products with my own tinge of sarcastic wit and apathy--because I know it's not only informative to some people, but also entertaining. Madonna had been in my stereo for the last few weeks (and I even started listening to the I Love New York song), but I've since moved on to the new Shakira and the fabulous new OC Mix 5. Don bought me the new 30gb iPod in black for my birthday (but it took me until the day after Thanksgiving to order it because I thought it was going to go on sale but it didn't) and I'm totally in love with it, so I'm listening to a lot of podcasts and a lot of new tunes. I'm thinking about reviewing some podcasts and TV shows I've been watching.
