Well it's that time of year again, the time where Wired releases about a billion different gift guides. This next guide is full of eco-friendly stuff. And, surprisingly enough, I found a few things on the list that I had not only heard of before, but already had on my Amazon.com Wedding Registry!
Here are my top five picks:
1. Sierra Club Wines
I love a good organic food product. I never even thought about organic wines. Sometimes I feel like alcohol is a whole separate category and I'm usually reaching for the best brand, et cetera. When I turned 21, I said I was going to start wine tasting. I never did. The difference between organic and non wines might be an interesting place to start.
2. Thames and Kosmos Power House
I love the idea of having my own self-sufficient house. AJ makes fun of me because I love those earth ships in New Mexico where they're made of clay and tires and cans and bottles, but I love that idea. I read an article recently where they were talking about this new community in California outside of San Fran, where it is all solar powered. I would love something like that, but the technology has been so expensive in the past. I'll call this model home (what is this, Arrested Development?) my starter house.
3. iSun Portable Solar Charger
Speaking of solar power, I've seen this gadget before. And now that it's on ThinkGeek, so has everyone else. I'd be nervous to buy, however, because I can't tell what I would need charged other than my cell phone. Will it charge my PowerBook? Will it charge my iPod? These are the three rechargable electronics in my life. I'd love to have them solar powered with a device that fits in my palm.
4. Recycled Wrapping Paper
I am the wrapping paper queen. I have two dozen rolls of the stuff just waiting to be used. And the only part that I hate about wrapping presents is that I know that when they are unwrapped, that NO one puts them in the recycling bin (me included). This way, I can wrap with less guilt.
5. Friendly Robotics RoboMower
This is the item on my Amazon Wedding Registry! I found it several years ago, when the Roomba was first introduced and I fell in love what all this home ec technology. Wouldn't it be just phenominal to turn this little sucker on, not waste gasoline (I wonder if the RoboMower can run on ozone action days), and sip a tea on the deck while technology mows your lawn? Yeah it would!
